Musician biography
Nashville recording artist, Luke West, hails from the colorful hills of Fayetteville, Arkansas and a heritage of country music that began with parents, “Sarge” & Shirley West, renowned as the first black country music duet in the US. Luke West furthers that tradition through his warm, rusty southern singing voice, his own unique original songwriting, and his respected recording of the #1 hit single “Sing Me Back Home,” originally recorded by Merle Haggard.
In the early eighties, West toured with the international singing troupe, Up With People, singing for Pope John Paul II and performing in over fifteen countries abroad. His first original band, Cotton Top, won first place in the three day band contest Kutua Festival and Rodeo, and opened for country music legend, Shenandoah.
In 2005, West was noted as the number one acoustic artist on the Mississippi coast after Hurricane Katrina. He’s opened for Johnny Rodriguez, Tracy Lawrence, Andy Griggs and CMT’s 2011 Next Superstar Winner, Matt Mason, among others.
In 2011, he moved to Ruidoso, NM to serve as Director of the NM-OATH Performing Arts Initiative of New Mexico Organized Against Trafficking Humans, raising funds and public awareness on behalf of victims of modern slavery.
