NM Organized against trafficking humans (NM-OATH)
On behalf of the victims of human trafficking, Luke donates a portion of the proceeds from each show to this non-profit organization.
In 2011, Luke West began working with NM Organized Against Trafficking
Humans as the founding director of the NM-OATH Performing Arts Initiative.
Today, he continues to raise awareness about modern slavery, and a portion of the proceeds from his shows is donated to the NM-OATH organization.
NM-OATH works to raise awareness about human trafficking, now so pervasive that this criminal activity is the #1 priority pursued by the FBI in the state of New Mexico. As the only 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the state focusing on this issue, NM-OATH serves as the primary state-wide educational resource on this issue, addressing this pandemic through three primary avenues:
· The NM-OATH Performing Arts Initiative: NM-OATH promotes musicians and other performing arts events which offer a range of opportunities from fundraising to public speaking. Venue owners become strong supporters of NM-OATH and audiences are exposed to the issue and the work underway at NM-OATH.
· NM-OATH Programs & Activities: Volunteers develop research, arrange speaking engagements, projects, events, and educational programming.
· The NM Rescue & Restore Coalition: NM-OATH facilitates this state-wide coalition under the umbrella of the US Department of Health and Human Services’ campaign against trafficking in persons. Through the coalition, members of professional and civic organizations receive industry-specific training on human trafficking victim identification.
Through this work to increase wider community consciousness, children will be less vulnerable to local trafficking predators, communities wake to reduce their ripeness for exploitation, and freed victims enjoy rights-based responses.
